Kayla McLain: Intern & Aspiring Sports Reporter
Technology is at our disposable 24/7.
How we use it...well, that's up to us.
As an intern at CBS Sports I have gained a better understanding of technology and what a useful tool it can be for a young person seeking to establish themselves in the work force.
Having the ability to self promote is priceless.
Websites such as Weebly, Wix, Blogspot etc. are being used more and more to to illustrate a person's skills, knowledge and passion on a subject.
Not only does it allow students- such as myself- the opportunity to show professionals and employers their experience but, it also keeps young adults on their toes.
These websites encourage hard work and determination. It motivates college students to better themselves by staying proactive- doing the little things now to get one step closer to their ultimate goal.
A couple years ago I created a website for one of my classes but made it specific to sports.
Being a sports reporter- whether that be on the sidelines or at the anchor desk- is my ultimate professional goal.
On my website viewers can find pictures and a short bio that tells a little bit about who I am and what I am interested in. In addition, there are photos and videos that show my passion for sports. The website also includes a link to my blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts, my updated resume and contact information.
By using websites such as weebly and wix I have automatically opened myself up to potential job opportunities. Immediately I am easily accessible and reviewable by employers. Not only that but I have "marketed" myself in the most efficient way possible.
Here are a couple examples of videos I posted on my web profile to illustrate my passion for sports:
